Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese art of energy work. It’s a safe form of hands-on healing which aids and activates the body’s own energy to promote health, relaxation, and balance.  A natural and holistic treatment, Reiki has helped in the healing process of many illnesses – it’s also extremely relaxing and wonderful for stress reduction.  The purpose of Reiki is to transfer subtle healing energy to a client; the practitioner uses a series of hand positions, either directly or just above the body and the client’s body draws the energy required.

FAQ’s

What does the word Reiki mean?

Reiki is a Japanese word for ‘univeral life-force energy’.

What happens during a Reiki session?

During a session, you will lay down on the massage table fully clothed. You’ll likely be most comfortable with your eyes closed, a warm blanket on top of you, and listening to soft music in the background. The Reiki practitioner will place her hands on or near your body; each position is held for several minutes. A typical Reiki session lasts about one hour.

How will I feel after my Reiki session?

Although it differs for everyone, most people report a general feeling a calm and alertness after a Reiki session; you may feel so relaxed that you feel a bit ‘spaced out’. It’s a good idea to relax afterwards and drink some water or tea. A general sense of overall well-being is normally the most predominant feeling; others report a lessening of pain.

What can Reiki do?

Anecdotal research has shown that clients have reported feeling more balanced, less pain, less stressed, more vitality, less emotional, better sleep, more ease of movement, etc. Benefits of Reiki can last anywhere between several days to several weeks, or sometimes a Reiki session can fix a re-occuring issue entirely. It’s important to remember that while some people report immediate benefit, others need many more sessions; as with any alternative therapy that doesn’t involve chemical medications, healing takes commitment and patience. Some people will see benefits immediateley while others need more time.

How many sessions will I need?

It’s entirely up to you. Most people feel benefit from one session and like the feeling so much they want more. If you’re getting Reiki to simply reduce stress and balance yourself, you may want to have a session once or twice a month. If you’re looking to resolve a chronic health issue, once or twice a week until it’s resolved may be best; normally between 5 to 6 sessions will clear up many health issues.

What kind of training do you need to do Reiki?

There are many institutes in Canada that offer Reiki training – the Canadian Reiki Association, the Reiki Training Centre of Canada, ReikiMasters, etc. All of them offer Level I, Level II, Level III, and Reiki Master Courses. These courses focus on the history of Reiki, Reiki prinicples, ethics, Reiki symbols, healing attunments, personal development and much more. Each level includes a theoretical side as well as a practicum.

Is Reiki a religion?

No. Reiki is a wonderful modality that can complement any religion. It’s a form of energy balancing that focuses on personal healing and practicioners of Reiki come from many different religions and spiritual beliefs.

Is Reiki safe for children?
